Working with our members

Leader

As a leader, you will be responsible for leading a group of girls and young women in regular unit meetings. You will plan and deliver engaging activities that help girls develop new skills, gain confidence, and build lasting friendships. Unit Leaders provide a supportive and inclusive environment for girls to learn and grow.

“Volunteering as a Girlguiding unit leader is an incredible privilege. Seeing the girls’ growth, confidence, and friendships form brings immense joy. It’s a rewarding experience to be a part of their journey towards becoming strong, empowered young women.” Unit leader

Unit helper

Unit helpers support leaders during unit meetings. They may assist with setting up activities, organising resources, and supervising the girls. This role is ideal for those who prefer a more flexible commitment.

Working with volunteers

There are various roles dedicated to working with volunteers to ensure their support, engagement, and development. These roles focus on nurturing a positive volunteering experience while providing volunteers with the necessary guidance and resources.

Commissioner

Commissioners have several important roles. They lead and manage a team of volunteers and encourage opportunities for volunteers and members in their district or division. They also represent their area in local meetings and events, and they work with local media to talk about Girlguiding’s goals.

Trainer

Trainers are responsible for delivering training sessions to volunteers, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill their roles effectively. They provide guidance on various topics, including programme delivery, safeguarding, first aid, and leadership development.

Adviser

Advisers provide specialised guidance and support to volunteers in specific areas, such as outdoor activities, international experiences, or girl-led programming. They act as a resource for volunteers, answering questions and providing expertise to enhance the quality of the girls’ experiences.

Mentor

Mentors offer one-on-one support and guidance to new or less experienced volunteers. They provide a listening ear, share their own experiences, and help volunteers navigate challenges or seek opportunities for growth and development.
